At the end of March, a two-day training and gathering for church music leaders (cantors) was held in Homoródalmás (Merești), bringing together participants from Unitarian congregations for professional development and spiritual renewal.
The event opened with greetings from Júlia Koppándi, mission counselor, on behalf of the Bishop’s Office, followed by a professional forum. From the very first evening, participants had the opportunity to share experiences, raise questions, and reflect together on the current challenges of their ministry.
Friday’s program continued with a rich series of lectures and practical sessions. After a morning devotion led by the local minister, Árpád Csete, participants were welcomed by Alpár Solymosi, dean of the church district. Ádám Sándor Fazakas spoke about the deeper understanding of liturgical organ playing, combining theoretical and practical insights. This was followed by András Ványolós, choir conductor, who introduced the basics of vocal technique in choral singing. In the afternoon, Tünde Pál, pastoral psychologist and family therapist, focused on the emotional and spiritual dimensions of the cantor’s service, addressing stress, emotional demands, and the importance of appreciation.
Participants also visited the local ethnographic house at Sósdomb, where they explored regional traditions and cultural heritage. The day concluded with communal singing in a relaxed and uplifting atmosphere.
On Saturday, after a time of spiritual reflection, Enikő Sorbán, church music leader of Homoródalmás, led a session teaching songs for Mother’s Day. The training concluded with a shared evaluation, where participants reflected on their experiences and discussed future directions.
Over the course of the gathering, participants not only deepened their professional knowledge but also gained spiritual strength and built meaningful connections. Shared singing, conversations, and community experiences all contributed to a sense of renewal as they returned to their congregations.
The organizers expressed their gratitude to the Unitarian congregation of Homoródalmás for their hospitality, to the Almárium guesthouse for the meals, and especially to Enikő Sorbán for her dedicated organization of the event.
