Kapocs – The Unitarian Family Camp

Kapocs (“Connection”) is one of the most important family and community events of the Hungarian Unitarian Church. First organized in 2021, the camp is held annually in Tusnádfürdő (Băile Tușnad), usually during the summer, and has quickly become a defining gathering for Unitarian families across Transylvania.

The event was created to strengthen connections between families, generations, congregations, and the Church through shared spiritual, cultural, and recreational experiences. The name “Kapocs” reflects this central idea of connection — to God, to one another, and to the wider community.

The multi-day camp combines worship services, lectures, discussions, children’s activities, youth programs, concerts, sports, and communal gatherings in a relaxed natural setting. Programs are organized for different age groups, while also emphasizing shared family experiences and intergenerational participation.

Children and young people take part in crafts, music, games, outdoor activities, and community programs, while adults can attend presentations and discussions on topics such as family life, education, faith, mental well-being, and community responsibility. Evening programs often include campfires, concerts, dance events, and informal conversations.

The camp is open and welcoming in spirit, attracting participants from many different regions of Transylvania. In recent years, it has typically brought together more than fifty families annually, making it one of the fastest-growing community initiatives of the Hungarian Unitarian Church.

Today, Kapocs represents a living expression of contemporary Unitarian community life, emphasizing faith, openness, solidarity, and meaningful human connection.
