About the Hostel
Tolerance Hostel is operated by the Unitarian congregation of Székelykeresztúr (Cristuru Secuiesc) and is located in a peaceful and welcoming setting approximately one kilometer from the town center. Most of the town’s attractions can be reached on foot within fifteen minutes, making the hostel an excellent base for both individual travelers and organized groups.
The accommodation consists of two buildings: the House of Friendship (Barátság Ház) and the House of Fidelity (Hűség Ház). Together, they offer thirteen guest rooms accommodating three, four, or five guests, with a combination of single and bunk beds. Every room has a private bathroom, while both buildings provide fully equipped kitchens, dining areas, and comfortable common rooms.
Amenities include bed linen, towels, reading lamps, laundry facilities, secure bicycle storage, free Wi-Fi, and safe on-site parking. Guests can also enjoy a spacious courtyard, a covered outdoor pavilion, barbecue facilities, a wine cellar, and a playground. The hostel is particularly well suited for camps, youth groups, retreats, educational programs, and community events. A bakery is located right next to the hostel, and a grocery store is conveniently situated just a few steps away.
Nearby Attractions
Székelykeresztúr is one of the historic centers of Hungarian culture in eastern Transylvania. Visitors can explore the Molnár István Museum, the Gyárfás Mansion, and the nearby Sóskút Spa and Mineral Spring area. The town is also closely associated with the memory of the Hungarian poet Sándor Petőfi, who spent his final night here before the Battle of Segesvár in 1849.
Exploring the Region
Thanks to its central location, Tolerance Hostel provides easy access to some of Transylvania’s most popular destinations. The medieval citadel of Segesvár (Sighișoara), the fortified church of Berethalom (Biertan), the UNESCO-listed Unitarian fortified church of Székelyderzs (Dârjiu), and the cultural center of Székelyudvarhely (Odorheiu Secuiesc) are all within convenient driving distance. The iconic Red Lake (Lacul Roșu) and the breathtaking Bicaz Gorge are also popular destinations for day trips from the hostel.
Visitors to the region may also enjoy traditional Székely cultural experiences, including horse-drawn carriage rides, folk dance performances, demonstrations of traditional crafts such as pottery and basket weaving, horseback riding, and local cheese tasting.
